Since its introduction in 2010 'School Wide Positive Behaviour Support' (SWPBS) has had an extremely positive effect on Cooroy State School.

SWPBS aims to create positive learning environments by developing proactive whole-school systems to define, teach, and support appropriate student behaviours.

The SWPBS team consists of:

  • SWPBS Coach
  • Principal
  • Deputy Principal
  • Lower school teacher
  • Middle school teacher
  • Upper school teacher
  • Special Education teacher
  • Teacher aide

Each week students are involved in an SWPBS lesson and watch an SWPBS video that focuses on a chosen behaviour from the Behaviour Matrix. This behaviour is then reinforced throughout the week using the 'Positive Possum Reward System'.

The SWPBS Matrix outlines the expected behaviours of Cooroy State School students while at school or involved in school activities. This matrix aligns with the four school rules:

  • Care for Your Learning
  • Care for Yourself
  • Care for Your School
  • Care for Others

Linking this entire system is the 'Positive Possum Reward System'. This system recognises, on a daily basis, those students that are following the expectations in the Expectations Matrix. Students are rewarded through:

  • Positive Possum charts/stamps
  • Catch A C’s
  • Positive Possum post cards
  • ‘Brilliant’ wrist bands
  • ‘Awesome’ wrist bands
  • ‘Epic’ wrist bands
  • End of semester celebration

When dealing with negative behaviour displayed at Cooroy State School, we use a level system based upon the level of support the students is requiring to successfully access the school program.
