Special Education programs of a certain size are eligible to have a Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) to lead and administer the program.

Our HOSES, Adam Garvey, is based at Cooroy State School and leads the Cooroy Hub Special Education Program that also includes Eumundi, Pomona, Kin Kin, Federal and Cooran State Schools.  Please contact Adam with any SEP-related queries.

The key roles of the HOSES include:

  • taking a central role in the education team in curriculum planning for students

  • teaching students with disability

  • monitoring the progress, performance and behaviour of students with disability

  • giving advice and guidance to teachers and support staff

  • coordinating and managing the staff and resources of the specialised program.

Special Education programs support students with disability in state schools, and assist students and teachers in the development of their educational programs.  The Cooroy State School Special Education Program focuses the teaching and learning of functional skills, knowledge and understanding, embedded within the scope and sequence and the general capabilities of the Australian Curriculum.

The staff at Cooroy State School work closely and collaboratively to ensure all students have access to, and are engaged with an appropriate and constructive curriculum.  Some students have Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and/or Individual Support Plans (ISDPs) to ensure their learning and development is focussed, relevant and specific to their individual needs.
