Each year student leaders are elected to represent the student body at Cooroy State School.

The aims of the Cooroy State School Leadership Program are to:

  • Endorse the beliefs and values of the school, both in school and the wider community

  • Promote the needs and interests of students, while providing opportunities to be involved in school decision making processes
  • Enhance the role of students as productive members of the school and wider community
  • Recognise and support the positive role students play in the development of a supportive school environment

The student leadership team involves:

  • School Captains
  • School Vice Captains
  • Student Council Presidents
  • Sports House Captains for each house (Oxley, Cook, Paterson and Lawson)
  • Class Captain from each Year 4 to Year 6 class

These students are chosen based upon merit within a selection process that is completed in Term 4 the year prior. This process involves:

    • Student Self or Peer Nomination
    • Completion of an Application Portfolio addressing selection criteria
    • Shortlisting
    • Interview with Deputy Principal, Year 5 Teacher and a representative from the P&C

All student leadership positions, except Class Captains, are then announced at the end of the year. During the beginning of the following school year Class Captains are chosen for each Year 4 to Year 6 class. A student leader’s induction ceremony is held where all leaders receive their leadership badges and complete the Cooroy State School leadership pledge.
