French

The successful program, Histoires en Action, introduced to Cooroy State School in 2008, is based on the Accelerative Integrated Method (AIM). The use of high-frequency vocabulary and gestures, contextualised in stories, drama, songs and dance, allows students to achieve high levels of oral and written fluency.

Available to our Grade 5 and 6 students, this program enables the students to express themselves orally in French from the first lesson and then extend their communicative and fluency skills to spontaneous classroom interactions and creative tasks aligned to the Australian Curriculum.

Cooroy State School has had extraordinary success with its French language program and has won a number of State awards as well as placing 1st in the Language Perfect World Championships in 2017.

Our students are also heavily involved in:

  • Brisbane and Sunshine Coast French Festivals, with on-stage plays and dance performances
  • MLTAQ Speech Competitions held at the University of the Sunshine Coast
  • Language Perfect Online Championships (Australia and worldwide)
  • French extension classes.

We celebrate Bastille Day at school with a fun dress-up day, complete with a French tuckshop menu and fashion parade. We also run a lunchtime club, offering interested students the opportunity to enjoy French conversation and cultural activities.

Since 2018, we have been involved in a penpal project with Ecole Primaire de St Firmin-des-Bois, a small rural primary school situated in the Loire Valley region, France.
